Can't believe this is our 5th week here ... time is flying by ...
Had a quiet weekend. Went into Wellington on Saturday afternoon and evening. We had to get a few things sorted for Richard's permanent residency. We also did a bit a shopping (got some new fancy sunglasses). But we had the most fun sipping wine in the early evening at this amazing little wine bar in Wellington off Cuba St called the 'Nobel Rot'. We both tried local ones and they were so delicious. Afterwards, we went to a Japanese restaurant on Cuba St called Origami - yummy. The best part of the evening was wandering around the harbour front. It's so beautiful at night, with cool lights and busy bars. It wasn't windy (unusual for here) so the water was still and we took some pretty cool photos - haven't got them off the camera yet though.
... Although I don't have any photos unfortunately, we also saw a wild penguin at the beach in Wellington, and two huge wild stingrays in the harbour!
On Sunday we went to what we thought was going to be a blackberry picking festival with Craig and Sarah who are our airbnb hosts (and live upstairs to where we're staying) - it akwardly turns out there was no blackberry picking at all, it was actually a local festival with local people eating baked blackberry goods that everyone was supposed to bring! In any case, we ended up sitting next to this lovely local couple (who didn't care at all that we randomly showed up), ate some cake, and left! Was definitely the most random thing we've done so far this trip, but it was fun and hilarious. Sunday evening we went to a local pub for some grub and a beer - again amazing food.
Although it's expensive here - the price of food is ridiculous - at least we've eaten well! We're still trying to eat super healthy during the week and exercise where we can. We've been walking so much too, almost every day, which is great. The weather is absolutely gorgeous at the moment - sunny and warm. Long may it last!
