Richard and I spent Saturday exploring
Holy Island, located 1 hour north of Newcastle. It is a very little Island, with no more than 160 inhabitants, that has been occupied for more or less 1400 years by the Anglo-Saxons. It has significant religious history (first monastery was built in 635AD) and has been occupied by many, including the Vikings. The island is connected to the mainland by a long, thin causeway. You can only cross this causeway at certain times of the day, when the tide is low. When the tide is high, most of the causeway is covered by the North sea. We had a such a nice day exploring!
