This past weekend was spent at the Lake District. We decided to go further south this time, and explore the lovely town of Bowness-on-Windemere. It certainly didn't disappoint. Our B&B was impeccable, with beautiful views, good hosts, delicious breakfast and a cosy room. On the first day we went for a walk along the lake, and stopped for dinner in a pub with the most amazing views of the hills. Wonderful place to have a pint! The second day was absolutely perfect. After our enormous English Breakfast, we got ready and headed off for a 4 hour hike. To do this we had to take a ferry across to the other side. It was an amazing hike, and probably my favourite we've done so far. It was a perfect mix of steep climbs and flats. And there were fantastic forest, city, countryside and mountain views all along. The variety was breathtaking. As our B&B offered free passes to the Old England Spa, we stopped in (all muddied) for a swim and sauna. It was a nice bit of luxury after a long hike! Afterwards, Richard treated me to a wonderful anniversary diner at 'Porto', a fantastic restaurant in Bowness. The food was absolutely amazing, and so was the wine. On Sunday, after another amazing breakfast, we went back down to the spa for a couple of hours, before heading back to Newcastle. Fantastic weekend.
